Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic is a conservative form of healthcare that focuses on the spine and other joints of the body.

The word “chiropractic” means “to be done by hand”. Chiropractors use adjustments to restore function and mobility to the joints, relieve pain and prevent chronic or recurrent conditions. A chiropractic adjustment is a safe, controlled force applied to a joint.
Adjustments can be done with varying techniques depending on the age, size and tolerance of the patient. Dr. Michele uses a few of these different techniques including spinal manipulation, spinal and joint mobilization, activator, drop table and sustained pressure. In addition, she gives instruction for stretches and exercises and provides lifestyle recommendations

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the practice of inserting thin needles into the skin at specific points on the body in order to reduce pain, restore balance and improve overall health. These points can be pain, or Ashi points; or they can be specific points along channels in the body. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) describes acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy, or qi (pronounced “chee”), that runs through the body along these specific channels or meridians.

Treatment of pain can be performed using either Western medical acupuncture or Traditional Chinese acupuncture. Treatment of body systems and internal conditions can only be done using Traditional Chinese acupuncture. Dr. Michele is a Traditional Chinese Registered Acupuncturist which means she is trained and qualified to use both forms of acupuncture.

TCM acupuncture can treat a wide variety of conditions. Some of the most commonly seen at Madoc Chiropractic are headaches, arthritis, anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia, constipation/diarrhea and vertigo.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy consists primarily of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints for the purpose of optimizing health.

Massage therapy treatment has a therapeutic effect on the body and optimizes health and well-being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Physical function can be developed, maintained and improved; and physical dysfunction and pain and the effects of stress can be relieved or prevented through the use of Massage Therapy.

Modern massage techniques can be traced back to the 1700s and the development of Swedish massage, the first systematic method of therapeutic massage based on physiology. Today’s Massage Therapists use their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to combine traditional Swedish and modern Massage Therapy techniques with exercise and other therapies to treat their clients.

Orthotics

A custom orthotic is a device designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. They look like insoles, but are biomechanical medical devices that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance. Custom orthotics work on your feet much like glasses work on your eyes – they reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. The plastic body of the custom orthotic helps to re-align the foot by redirecting and reducing certain motion that takes place during the gait cycle. Custom orthotics fit into your shoes as comfortably as an insole – and they have the advantage of having been made from precise imprints of your feet.

We can dispense custom orthotics to help correct your specific foot and body imbalance.

Webster Technique

The Webster Technique, or Webster In-Utero Constraint Technique, is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment of the sacrum. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of misalignment and dysfunction of the sacrum and sacroiliac joint. Misalignment and dysfunction of the sacrum may contribute to difficult labour, weakened contractions, and baby malposition. The most common reason the Webster Technique is searched for is breech position of the baby. It should be performed as early in pregnancy as possible to prevent malposition. Once it’s discovered a baby is breech, the technique should used as soon as possible. The further along in the pregnancy and the larger the baby, the more difficult it is for the baby to correct its position. Webster should be used early in pregnancy and throughout the pregnancy to prevent malposition and prepare the pelvis for delivery.

Laser, IFC, Ultrasound

Laser, interferential current therapy and ultrasound are common physiotherapy modalities that are used to facilitate pain reduction and soft tissue healing. Sometimes these therapies are used in conjunction with adjustments in order to speed recovery.
